Well what a year it was for DMU Equestrian, boasting the biggest number of members and teams since it began as a society at De Montfort University. With 2 BUCS and 1 friendly league team it can only be said that one of DMU's smallest societies made a smash this year with successful team and individual rosette placings across the board. The end of year varsity against the prestigious Leicester university was an extremely close tie with minimal points escaping DMU from a victory they trained so hard for. The C team however, came 1st with 3 individual rosettes and a well earned red ribbon for the four riders involved, captained by Becky Shraga, who was ecstatic with the efforts and progress her team had made throughout the year. The annual colours awards saw DMU Equestrian reach a new level of success as two awards were gained that evening, one for Nat Chant, who truly deserved to be praised for her 3 year effort to push Equestrian sport to the forefront of De Montfort's competative societies. The other award was for 'The most charitable team of the year' due to the hard work and fantastic naked charity calendar produced by the riders, committee and society members.
So it is clear that 2013/2014 aims to reach a new standard of not just competitive riding, but recognition and appreciation for Equestrian sport at DMU. This level has only been achieved from the hard work of the previous committee and dedication of the members to a challenging, emotional and adrenalin filled sport. With big plans and high aims, it looks to be a bright future for Equestrian sport at De Montfort and this year we are hoping to exceed even everyones expectations as a society. Equestrian sport relies upon a steady mind, physical fitness, determination and a deep seated compassion and respect for the animals we trust to get us where we are today. So if you're looking for a new challenge? Want to make some new friends? Or simply love to ride, De Montfort Equestrian Team and Society is the place to be!
